About Josie McClard

Josie McClard, Psychotherapy Intern

Under directed experience and clinical supervision

Coming home to yourself isn’t always easy, especially if you learned early on that staying small, hypervigilant, agreeable, or self-reliant was the safest option. Many of the people I work with have spent years pushing down parts of themselves, second-guessing their needs, or carrying a constant sense of “I should be handling this better.” Even when life looks okay on paper, their bodies often tell a different story.

I work primarily with teens, adults, and couples navigating complex trauma, religious trauma, OCD, relationship patterns, identity exploration, and nervous system dysregulation. I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ clients, individuals healing from high-control or religious environments, and those who feel caught between who they were taught to be and who they actually are. Many of my clients struggle with chronic anxiety, shame, intrusive thoughts, emotional overwhelm, or a sense of disconnection from themselves or others, even when things look “fine” on the outside.

My work is grounded in the mind-body connection and in paying attention to what shows up in the room. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR alongside trauma-informed and nervous system–focused approaches, but more than anything, I focus on helping clients understand why their patterns make sense. Anxiety, intrusive thoughts, shutdown, people-pleasing, or emotional numbness are not random; they’re learned responses that once served an important purpose.

Therapy with me is steady and collaborative. We work toward real change, including more regulation, clearer boundaries, and greater choice in how you respond to stress and relationships. That change happens through building enough internal safety to understand what’s been shaping your patterns, so real change becomes possible.

If any of this resonates, I would love to connect and see if we might be a good fit.
