Aven Barbosa, Psychotherapy Intern

Under directed experience and clinical supervision.

Aven Barbosa is a passionate and empathetic counseling intern currently pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Kentucky. With a strong commitment to integrative and holistic care, Aven creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported throughout their therapeutic journey.

Aven primarily works with couples and adult individuals, drawing from evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Her work with couples centers on improving communication, deepening emotional connection, and navigating conflict with compassion and clarity.

In addition to her work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship stress, Aven also has a special interest in supporting women navigating life transitions such as perimenopause. She is passionate about helping women reconnect with their identity, manage mood changes, and adjust to the physical and emotional shifts during this season of life.

Aven is deeply committed to ongoing professional development and is actively pursuing specialized training in counseling for stepfamilies and blended families, as well as premarital counseling through the Prepare/Enrich program.

Grounded in a client-centered philosophy, Aven approaches each client with warmth, authenticity, and the belief that meaningful change is possible through collaborative, strengths-based work.
